City Manager

City HallThe mission of the city manager’s office is to provide leadership, guidance and support to the City organization in the efficient and effective management of human, financial and material resources and to implement policies, annual goals and objectives as established by the City Council.

The goal of the city manager’s office is to create and maintain a vibrant community environment and enhance the quality of life for San Marcos residents, businesses, customers and partners. This is accomplished by providing exceptional facilities, programs and services in a fiscally responsible manner.

The city manager serves as the chief executive officer of the City and is appointed by the City Council. Responsibilities provided in the city manager’s office include preparation and submission of the annual city budget, capital improvement program, and directing the provision of police, public works/engineering, planning, building, housing, economic development, redevelopment, finance, human resources, and parks and recreation of the City. The department also provides staff support to the City Council, completes special projects, handles communication and outreach, analyzes state and federal legislation, coordinates risk management services and coordinates the cable television franchises.

Paul Malone currently serves as the city manager for the City of San Marcos.
