The trail around the lake offers various views of the area from the mountains to the south and the Discovery Hills development to the north. The Chaparral covers the south side of the lake, while a riparian habitat can be found below the dam, with Sycamores and Willows. Though most of the new plantings are not native, the vegetation is maturing and the walk around the lake is very pleasant. Many water birds reside here, such as coots, mallards, herons and an occasional egret. Bobcats and deer have been seen near the lake. A rock crushing plant is located to the southeast and can be operating during the day.
Recreational activities abound in this area. Children will enjoy fishing or feeding the ducks from a dock that extends into the lake, and a playground in the adjacent park has a small fountain area for children to splash in. The trails are populated with walkers out for an evening stroll, parents pushing baby strollers, teens rollerblading, high school runners practicing, people walking dogs, etc. This is a very enjoyable area.
