Business Licenses

Any person conducting business within the City must have a valid business license issued by the City of San Marcos. Doing business in the City is defined as being located in or entering into the City to conduct business with the intent of being paid. This includes businesses based in other cities that enter San Marcos as part of their work such as contractors and delivery companies. It also includes businesses that are located here but may not have customers in San Marcos. Having a presence, even temporarily, in San Marcos requires a business license. For an application and fee schedule, please click on one of the following:

• Business License - In City Application (All businesses located within the City limits of San Marcos)
• Business License - Out of City Application (Contractors, Sub-Contractors, Delivery Businesses, etc., that are not physically located within the city limits of San Marcos)
• Business License – Municipal Code

If you conduct business under any of the following categories, a separate regulatory permit must be obtained that will require special processing. This is in addition to a business license. Please call (760) 744-1050, ext. 3101 to obtain necessary forms.
